According to dictionary segment means part of a circle cut off by a line or part of something separated or marked off from the other parts.
So segmentations could mean as a division into segments.
What is the importance of segmentation to marketing strategy? With the principal of segmentation we see our global market and divide it into segments.
Usually we tend to see every thing in global way. In a way this is not wrong thing to do. However when we are talking about marketing and expecting to succeed in our campaign we should see and separate our market into segments.
Seeing into a segmental market enables us to prepare the right way to build a communication with the right market segment.
Seeing people as global community we are going to loose the opportunity to realize that the community is actually containing many kind of people. In a global community we are going to see some children, some businessmen, some employee, some traders, some students, some housewives and many more. These kinds of people have different need and subject of interest. We need to find out what do they need in a proper segmental way.
When you are marketing your product to people, you need to think first what kind of people will likely suitable with your product. How will you talk to them that you have something just like they need it? This is not a simple task to do but you surely need to understand this if you want to market your product and service successfully
This principal of segmentation has also something to do with your own appearance. What I’m trying to say is that you have to make sure that other people see you as a different person or different producer or different supplier among the others.
Maybe you are running a restaurant business. You are clearly aware that you are not the only person in the area who runs the same business. Your customer will see many restaurants with you as one of those many. Make sure that you can build the imagination in your customer’s mind about how different you are comparing to other restaurant. Let them see you as a different restaurant than others. This is also the principal of segmentation.
